The CXP V2 now sports its own web portal for the user to deploy their databases online now. This can be done for several reasons like the ability to show your dogs pedigrees and detailed information on them, or you can use the kit to collect pedigrees and photos from the visitors who come to your kit and this will allow you to collect more pedigrees and data and build a larger database of dogs and give out more information in return, you and your sites visitors can use the trial mating system online to view potential pups pedigrees and utilise some of the kits other enhancments that have been set up for you and your kits users/members.
With this kit you can take your canine database online in a matter of minutes. Its simple to setup and use and requires no knowledge of web servers.
The idea behind this portal is to let you share and collect your canine and pedigree data, you can choose to make it a private portal and insist on memberships or you can quite happily leave it an open site for all to view and utilize the choice is yours.
The kit is complete and can be customized a little to reflect your breed, kennels, club or other personal preferences to a degree, but essentially its a ready made complete solution.
You can show a dogs records along with pedigree, health & data, you can trial mate your dogs with other dogs in the database to reflect the resulting peds as a research and study tool, its fast and simple!!
There are several sections out with the pedigree environment and these sections can be added to or edited from the portals control panel.
The gallery section will grow as you collect photos and the photo submission tool allows members to add their own images to the portals gallery section, this gives you the ability to collect photos for records in your main pedigree database and as a side kick you get a gallery out of it.
Now With A New Pop Up Pedigree Explorer that allows you to click and scroll through your pedigree ancestors and go as far back as your database records allow.
The kit comes complete if you request it when you buy our New CompanionXP Version 2 software. If you already have the CompanionXP you can not use this kit and need to buy the new version.
The main function of this kit is to raise our needed server fees and we only wish to have them hosted on our servers initially.
How Do I Update The Peddy Kit?
The peddy kit is very easy to maintain and update even with no web or HTML experience. The way it works is as follows..
Your web kit has several sections and they are controlled via its own control panel that can be accessed by clicking the ADMIN link on the top right of the kits pages.
Once logged into the Control panel you will see your options for adding , editing or deleting your kits content, you can manage the News, Article & Links via simple form submissions similar to most web forums use..
You will also find sections on Pending members and pending pedigrees and photos in here too.
The CompanionXP itself with manage your pedigrees and pedigree photos so the rest you can do in your CP.
When you receive user pedigrees in your CP you or your manager will receive an email to inform you and from your email you can log in and view the submitted pedigree...
Depending on your vetting and validation routines we have provided a scanned ped or reg doc section and you can insist the users also add scanned peds and documents for you to validate with or you can take the added pedigree from the user and input it right into your CXP database for inclusion in the next update.
You can update as often as you wish or schedule them for whenever its up to you but when you wish to update your peddy kit with your current CXP database do as follows........
- Step 2: Choose Update Web Kit Button From The Properties Options
- Step 3: Check UserID & Password For Your Kits Connection
The default setting will be adequate and require no changes unless you have altered your kits database name and location as with the name and location of the pedigree photos folder. If you have made no changes then leave this info as it is.
You will get your UserID & password from the Peddy Kit team via email when you request your web kit.
Once your sure the details are correct and you have input your UserID & Password you can proceed to the main update steps using the buttons numbered 1, 2 & 3 as seen is the small image above.
Starting The Update Process
Retrieve Your Kits Database
You must first retrieve your kits database by hitting Button 1, this will start a copy process from Windows and it will go to your kit and copy the database to the CXP where it will get its new records and info you have added.
When you see the Copying window appear you know your process has begun and you must now wait until this has finished before you continue to the next step.
If you do not first retrieve your database you may loose records when you update because the kit database may receive records when online in between your updates so if you do not first collect these you will lose them if you update your old kit database that the CXP has...so always hit Button 1 to collect your kits database first.
This can take from a few seconds to a few min's depending on the amount of records you hold in your database and your internet connection speed.
Once the Copying window has completed it will close and you can now click Button 2
Update Your Kits Database
You will be warned that your about to make an un reversible change to your kits database and you have the option to quit if you have came here by error or your just looking ...Clicking OK is final to this next step and the kits database will be filled with the current database the CXP is running.
Once you have done your update in the CXP you need to put your kits newly updated database back to the server its on so Button 3 is your next choice...
Upload Your Kits Database
You will receive a Warning from the Windows Copying Window to tell you there is already a database in the server with that name and do you want to copy over the one there already??? You must choose YES here to put the updated database in on top of the old one to complete your update.
All your new records are now on the kit and you can go to your kit and see that all is well and test to see the new info you added is there if you wish at this stage..
The last job to do is to send any new photos you have attached to your database records in the CXP so the final Button Update Kit Photos must be clicked.....
Update Your Kits Pedigree Photos
The CXP will search your current database records and look on the server to see what photos are there already and then upload any new photos needed, this process is dependant on your internet speed and the amount of photos to check and upload so once you start this process watch the process bar for an indication of the over all process and do not do anything else until this job is complete to ensure all your images and photos are sent properly.
That's all there is too it...
Although the written steps above may seem long winded and complex it is a very simple task generally taking very little time to complete on most broadband connections today.
The auto update system is very new to the CXP as files used to be manually transferred to the server so this new developments makes for a far easier job for the most novice of computer users who may be unsure on file transfers across the internet.. The CXP will do it for you as long as you follow the 1,2,3 Button steps above you can not go wong.
